Volunteering and sharing member expertise is the most cost-effective way to support our
community and make a valuable contribution to your Co-Op.
EXPERTISE - Do you have a special interest, talent or job-related experience that could be
called upon? Are you an accountant, carpenter, master gardener, computer wizard or
QuickBooks expert etc? If so, please contact Tracy Kleinberg, tjkleinberg@gmail.com.
COMMITTEES - The Board is in the process of organizing committees that will address specific
needs and spread the workload. Below is a list of committees, a brief description of their
function and the contact person. If you have experience and/or an interest in participating
on a committee, please email the contact person.
1. Membership: Focus on growing the membership and be responsive to membership
trends and requests.

2. Business Development: Design and work with the Board of Directors to implement
a business plan and identify growth opportunities.

3. Capital Campaign: The Local Beet Co-Op Capital Campaign will raise necessary
funds for physical improvements to achieve desired goals and secure a sustainable
financial future for the Co-Op. Capital from member loans, cooperative funding
organizations and grants will be pursued.

4. Marketing, Communications and Educational Outreach: Keep the
membership and general public informed of Co-Op activities via
The Local Beet Co-Op website, email newsletters, Facebook, Twitter and print
materials. Design marketing, promotional, publicity and educational outreach
activities that grow Co-Op revenues and enrich our community.

5. Purchasing/Inventory: Determine the needs of the shopper-ship, seek out the best
vendors and suppliers, and manage purchasing and inventory.

6. Buying Club: The Buying Club is an exciting component of our Co-Op that
gives members the autonomy to order, in quantities, from our primary distributor,
UNFI. Members are able to access our catalog and order cases of products at
15% above wholesale prices.

7. Volunteer: Recruit and manage volunteers and identify new opportunities for
volunteers to meet the needs of the Co-Op.

8. Community Partnership Committee: We will focus on
"Cooperation Among Co-Ops" as our main objective. As 2012 celebrates
internationally "The Year of the Co-Op," committee members will continue to
foster relationships with Connecticut co-ops to leverage group purchasing, develop
a combined marketing campaign and encourage food security legislation.
